Getting Started

Β Whether you are a student pilot or an experienced aviator, getting started is a highly structured process. Here is how you progress from your first loop to the competition box:

Aerobatic instruction can be incorporated directly into your flight training. An approved instructor will teach you the five foundational maneuvers: the loop, roll, snap (flick) roll, stall turn, and spin. Every complex competition figure is built from these five basics. This initial Flight Activity Endorsement typically takes 5–10 hours of dual instruction.

Once endorsed, joining the AAC unlocks access to our network of experienced competition pilots. Through regular contests and training days, you will receive expert critiquing to refine your technique and improve your scores.

Safety is the foundation of everything we do. All pilots start with a hard deck of 3,000 feet Above Ground Level (AGL) for their initial aerobatics flight activity endorsement. Through disciplined training with qualified instructors you can be issued aerobatics flight activity endorsements for 1500′ AGL, 1000′ AGL, 500′ AGL, and Unlimited (Ground Level). Progressing through the levels of competition aerobatics requires similar discipline and suitable flight activity endorsements.

Want to stay on the ground?Β The club isn’t just for pilots. We run regular Judge’s Home Study Courses for aviation enthusiasts who want to officiate and judge at state and national contests.
